Pi
Well to show how far Flick Pick has degenerated from its original rules, we decided to watch a movie that three of the four attendees had already seen. However it was Pi day, so we figured it would be ok. I was going to make a pie, but then we had cookies instead. Anyway, this movie is cool and really weird. Aronofsky's style has changed a lot since he made this movie but it still has that grainy look that he likes. Anyway, we didn't actually finish watching the movie because Shawn got a phone call and then we started a conversation that didn't end until way too late. So it was a fun flick pick but there wasn't as much flick as you would expect.

True Stories: If you don't like it, blame Alex and Stephanie!
True Stories
This movie was really weird, but I liked it. I had never really heard David Byrne speak before or anything, so that was interesting. I also just liked the way that the characters were truly "characters," and the way that a culture was sort of captured. There was also some dry humour which of course I liked. My favorite scene was maybe the one with the marauding kids because it was just so random and really funny. However I also liked the part where he talks about aluminum buildings. It's kind of hard to describe this movie; I can see some people really hating it because it is kind of dated and also one of those movies where the plot takes a backseat to the characters and the setting. Anyway, I would watch it again and would show it to people who haven't seen it. I feel like this would go over well with the old Tulane crowd.

Lolita: If you don't like it, blame Scarlett!
Lolita
Well let's start off by saying it was pretty weird to refer to myself in the third person in that title! Anyway obviously I'm going to give this one a glowing review because I hand-picked it. I like the way that because of censorship, older movies had to use lots of weird innuendo, for example, Camp Climax. You see, some people wouldn't get that? Also the part where she's holding the egg over his mouth is oddly sensual, even though she's handling a freaking fried egg, which is a little nasty to me because I don't like to touch food.
I'm not even sure what to say, other than that I like the acting and I think this is a good adaptation of the book that isn't too uncomfortable to watch because after all that girl looks a lot older than the Lolita in the book and she is pretty suggestive herself. I wish I could post a picture of Hunter doing his James Mason face, because it is very funny.

The Onion Movie: If you don't like it, blame Shawn!
The Onion Movie
This movie was... interesting. It had its funny parts, I'll admit. Although, as Hunter pointed out, it had more gay sex in it than Milk, which is kind of problematic. Anyway, despite being pretty offensive and at times gross, I will admit it was funny. I was mainly trying to hold back laughs to preserve my image. I wouldn't have chosen this movie myself, and I wouldn't watch it again, but it was far from the worst movie I have ever seen. Daniel Dae Kim was a nice surprise, too.

Brick: If you don't like it, blame Hunter!
Brick
I had actually seen this movie before, but I didn't remember the whole thing. Plus, with as many pictators as we have (it's really more of a socialist republic but there isn't any good pun for that), it's inevitable that someone will have seen one of the movies before. Anyway, this movie is really good. The stock summary is that it's a film noir set in a high school, which maybe sounds weird but is pretty awesome. Because it's a mystery, I don't want to say too much more than that on the off chance that someone who hasn't seen it stumbles upon this blog. But anyway, I liked the movie and more specifically its portrayal of people in high school as "real people." I will leave it to Hunter to elaborate on that because he has watched the director commentary and if I post what he told me from there he'll say I stole it from him.

The Brood: If you don't like it, blame Evan!
The Brood:
Alright. This was the inaugural flick pick, just kind of a spur of the moment thing. I really, really did not want to watch this movie. If you know me, you probably get that it's not really in keeping with my usual interests. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't think it was a good movie or anything, but it was an entertaining 92 minutes. It wasn't too too gory and it just had this weird 70s/Canadian vibe which as you can imagine is pretty chilling. I might have seen it before Evan picked it, but I just wasn't looking for anything that small.

Ok so here's how I was thinking this thing could work:
